History
Higashi-Mito Station is on the Oarai Kashima Line of Kashima Rinkai Railway, in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture. It opened on 14 March 1985, with the line. Mito City planned to build a 400 m access road and a 3,000 m² station plaza for the opening, and until the landowners agreed to the works shortly before the March opening, it was uncertain whether the road would be ready. The road opened provisionally, gravel-surfaced, with only one lane open along part of it. The station is 3.8 km from Mito Station, the line's official starting point, and has an elevated island platform with two tracks. It is unstaffed. It lies in eastern Mito, near the Kamiono Civic Center and Mito Kamiono Elementary School.
Notes
The station is the closest one to Rokujizo Temple, a well-known spot for weeping cherry blossoms.
