Heiwadai Station opened on 24 June 1983 in Nerima, Tokyo, with the extension of the Teito Rapid Transit Authority (Eidan) Yūrakuchō Line from Eidan-Narimasu (today's Chikatetsu-Narimasu) to Ikebukuro. The station became a contracted-operations facility in February 2003 and passed to Tokyo Metro on 1 April 2004 when Eidan was privatised. PASMO IC card service began on 18 March 2007. With the opening of the Fukutoshin Line on 14 June 2008, the station became a shared stop for both lines and was assigned the dual numbers Y04 / F04. Platform-edge doors entered service on 11 September 2010, and departure melodies in February 2011.

When Heiwadai opened in 1983, its ground-level entrances were surrounded by cabbage fields; the once-rural setting has been completely overtaken by housing and supermarkets along the widened Kanpachi-dōri.
