Hattori-tenjin Station opened on 10 March 1910 as a stop on the Minoo-Arima Electric Tramway, the predecessor to Hankyu, making it one of the operator's oldest stations. The original name is disputed: some sources record an immediate change to "Hattori Station" around 1912-13, while Hankyu itself states the station opened as Hattori. The current name Hattori-tenjin took effect on 21 December 2013, the same date Hankyu introduced system-wide station numbering with this stop designated HK-43. The station sits inside the precincts of Hattori Tenjin Shrine, and a sacred camphor tree pierces the roof of the Osaka-umeda-bound platform.
