Harinakano Station opened on 13 April 1923 when Osaka Railway opened its line between Osaka Tennoji (now Osaka Abenobashi) and Nunose. Through wartime consolidations the line passed to Kansai Express Railway in February 1943 and then, on 1 June 1944, to a merged Kintetsu, where it became part of the Minami Osaka Line. The line through the station was elevated in stages between July 1975 and February 1976. PiTaPa contactless ticketing began on 1 April 2007, and a station-wide renovation linked to the nearby Nagai Park and Botanical Garden redesign was carried out between February and July 2022.

The station name derives from the Nakano family of acupuncturists who, in their 41st generation, helped fund the 1923 opening of Osaka Railway through this area; the rail company named the nearest stop after their Nakano acupuncture clinic, and the area later took "Harinakano" as its official place name in 1980.
