Gunchū-kō Station ("Gunchū Port") opened on 10 May 1939 as the new terminus of the Iyo Railway Gunchū Line, extending the line one stop beyond the previous endpoint at Gunchū. Down-direction trains terminate here and reverse to head back to Matsuyama. In 2015 the station's departure jingle was replaced with a new melody titled "Rhythm." The station retains its single side platform and one track and is staffed.

Gunchū-kō stands across National Route 378 from JR Shikoku's Iyo-shi Station (Yosan Line); the two stations face each other on opposite sides of the road, with the taxi rank located on the JR side.
