The station's name combines three local references: "Gen" from the Genji fireflies that breed along the river here, "jii" from "jiibaba," a regional name for the village flower (shunran orchid), and "mori" (forest) reflecting that roughly 70 per cent of Aka Village is woodland — itself the etymology of the adjacent Genjii-no-Mori nature park the station serves.
