History

Furutsu Station was established on 28 September 1943 as a Ministry of Railways signal station and upgraded to a station on 28 May 1949. On 1 October 1970 baggage handling ended, staff were no longer assigned, and the station moved to a simplified-consignment arrangement. The present building came into use on 1 April 1979. JR East took over the station when Japanese National Railways was split up and privatized on 1 April 1987, and Suica has worked here since 21 January 2006. The ground-level station has two opposed side platforms serving two tracks, linked by a footbridge, and is unstaffed, managed from Niitsu Station. It stands in Akiha-ku, Niigata, Niigata Prefecture, on the Shinetsu Main Line.

Notes

Although the station has no staff of its own, it has had an honorary station master since 1 May 2012, a retired JR East employee who volunteers to keep the station and its surroundings tidy.
