History
Fukuro-machi is a tram stop on Hiroden's Ujina Line in Naka-ku, Hiroshima. It opened on 23 November 1912, together with the line's section between Kamiya-cho and Miyuki-bashi. The stop was closed around May 1942, during the war, and was brought back after it. Its station number is U02. The number was first assigned as U2 in October 1996 and was changed to U02 on 3 August 2025. The two low-floor platforms lie on street-running track, one on each side of the pair of north-south tracks, and are staggered along the line. Because the stop is near Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, the automatic announcement on trams bound for Hiroshima Port (Ujina) calls it "Peace Memorial Park Entrance".
Notes
Before the war, a large camphor tree stood near the stop, in the grounds of Kokutai-ji Temple; together with the trams passing beside it, it was a beloved Hiroshima landmark and even a subject for picture postcards, but the atomic bombing scorched it dead and it no longer exists.
