Daitō Station was opened on 30 September 1942 by Japanese Government Railways as the Daitō Signal Box, on the existing Sasebo Line in the city of Sasebo, Nagasaki. On 15 May 1945 it was upgraded to a full station and passenger services commenced. After the 1987 privatisation of JNR, JR Kyushu inherited the station. It is served by Sasebo Line local trains and by the JR Kyushu Rapid Seaside Liner; most Ōmura Line local services from Haiki also continue through Daitō to Sasebo. The unstaffed station consists of two staggered side platforms with no station building, only shelters and automatic ticket machines.

The station opened during the Second World War as a signal box, and was upgraded into a passenger station three months before Japan's surrender.
