Baraki Station opened on 20 May 1898 as part of the initial construction phase of the Sunzu Line linking Mishima with present-day Izu-Nagaoka, operated today by Izuhakone Railway. The station was unstaffed from 1 May 1971 onward. The two opposed side platforms are connected by a level crossing, with the station building beside Platform 2 — the main bidirectional track — while Platform 1 is used only occasionally. An adjacent siding next to Platform 1 fell out of use over many years; its overhead lines were removed first, and the siding itself was finally taken up in 2013, after which a fence was installed along that side of the platform. The unstaffed station building has a touch-panel ticket machine and an intercom connected to Izu-Nagaoka Station.

Despite its rural setting, Baraki has hosted several filmed productions: the 2008 film Shōrin Shōjo (Kung Fu Girl), the GReeeeN music video for "Tabidachi", and an episode of the TV drama "Smile" — with the station relabelled "Fuji-Nagaoka" for the latter — all used the platforms or station forecourt as locations.
