Azabu-juban Station opened on 26 September 2000 when the Teito Rapid Transit Authority (TRTA) completed the Namboku Line between Meguro and Tameike-sannō. The Toei Ōedo Line platforms followed on 12 December of the same year, making it a transfer point between the two networks. The Namboku Line side passed to Tokyo Metro on 1 April 2004 when TRTA was privatised. PASMO acceptance began in March 2007, and in March 2015 the Namboku platforms adopted station-original departure melodies replacing the line-wide jingle.

The Namboku Line concourse ceiling is an 8.0-metre vaulted dome inspired by aqueduct arches, with murals evoking Azabu's historic textile trade.
