History

Awakura-Onsen Station opened on 3 December 1994 with the simultaneous inauguration of the Chizu Express Chizu Line, in the village of Nishiawakura in Aida District, Okayama Prefecture. The station was developed by Chizu Express, a third-sector operator established to provide a short-cut route between San'in and the San'yō Main Line. Earlier construction documents listed the station under the working name Kageishi, taken from the local hamlet. The site has a single island platform with two tracks on a raised embankment and a small unstaffed building on its western side; passengers reach the platform without entering the building. It is the easternmost station in Okayama Prefecture.

Notes

Through standard one-line working both directions usually depart from platform 1; platform 2 is reserved for train crossings and overtaking by faster services.
