• Dosan Line: Tosa-Shinjō ⇄ Tosa-Kure

Awa Station opened on 15 November 1939 when the Dosan Line was extended westwards from Susaki to Tosa-Kure in Kōchi Prefecture, then under Japanese Government Railways. The unstaffed stop sits 173.6 km from the line's origin at Tadotsu and is bracketed by Tosa-Shinjō and Tosa-Kure. The original island platform was subsequently simplified to a single side platform, and the remains of a former freight platform are still visible. Control passed to Japanese National Railways and then, on 1 April 1987, to JR Shikoku at privatisation. Today only a small weather shelter stands on the platform, with the station bearing the line identifier K21.

The platform sits within sight of the Pacific Ocean along the Awa coast, and is regularly featured by JR Shikoku among its scenic seaside stops.
