Arimatsu Station opened on 8 May 1917 as Arimatsu-ura Station, the eastern terminus of the Aichi Electric Railway's first line out of Jingū-mae. The line was extended onward to Toyohashi over the next decade, ending the station's terminus role after about six years. The Aichi Electric Railway merged into Meitetsu on 1 August 1935, and the station was renamed Arimatsu on 1 November 1943. The previous twin wooden station buildings, styled to match the Arimatsu old-town streetscape and rebuilt in 1977, were replaced when an elevated overhead concourse opened on 14 October 2001. Manaca contactless fares started on 11 February 2011, and platforms were raised in March 2017.

Arimatsu's ridership is the highest of any semi-express-only stop on the entire Meitetsu network, exceeding even some limited-express and express stops on the same Nagoya Main Line.
