Arakawa-itchūmae Station (SA 02) is the newest stop on the Tokyo Toden Arakawa Line (Tokyo Sakura Tram), opened on 11 November 2000 in Minami-senju 1-chōme, Arakawa, Tokyo. The Joyful Minowa shopping street (三ノ輪銀座商店街) was suffering from declining footfall, and the local merchant association petitioned the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly to add a new tram stop at the far end of the arcade so shoppers arriving at Minowabashi would not turn back midway. The stop's name honours nearby Arakawa Ward First Junior High School, with the secondary name 'Joyful Minowa-mae'. A 2008 study found the new stop's economic effect on the street was modest because most shops relied on local regulars rather than tram tourists, though tram-themed shops did benefit.
